A. are you looking for explanations that might come from structural functionalists? If you are, i like to think of it as a bit of a guessing game, as you can sort of spin a lot of the potential explanations assuming you dont have to do any large scale research to back it up. If i was to hazard an explanation from that perspective i would say increases in the definition and application of medical labels such as childhood obesity help to supplement and augment a growing biomedical field which will be one of the essential sectors of the economy going forward. It therefore makes sense to use childhood obesity specifically, because the sooner that an individual can be integrated into the system, the more controlled the relationship between the… [cont.]

What do you think causes childhood obesity?
Q. I am taking a nutrition class for my early childhood education degree and childhood obesity is the topic I chose to write my research paper on. I would like to get some input on how you all feel about the subject. This will help in my project. No names or user id's will be used in any part of this project. Websites to visit are appreciated. A. Weight gain or loss is the balance between food energy input and exercise energy output. The government health department offers this insight - "Time trends show a decline in physical activity, but no significant increase in the number of calories consumed." So maybe eating too much is not the main cause, and a lack of physical output is. TV and video games have been blamed, but the studies have looked into this and TV is not to blame. "video game play, but not television use, is indeed displacing the time children spend in more physically demanding pursuits." (see source) Video games then? Well the US state with the heaviest kids has 19% playing 4+ hours, and the state with the leanest youngsters - 3.5%. It does not mean it is a… [cont.]

What is the largest charity associated with Childhood Obesity?

How do conservatives and liberals views differ on childhood obesity?
Q. I am writing a paper on childhood obesity and have to find 4 main groups who are arguing about the issues of what causes childhood obesity and how to best fix it. anything will help thanks :]

A. Most Conservatives are involved with their children which means they always make dinner, when I say make dinner, I mean something other than "Give me two happy meals with chocolate shakes, please" We really cook, therefore most of our children are not obese.

How serious of a problem is childhood obesity?
Q. I'm writing a paper for my research writing class and I wondering what you all think. I've been researching this paper for a while and I thought it would be nice to have some outside opinions. So do you think childhood obesity is a serious problem in America today? Moreover, do you know the serious consequences of being obese and if not do you think the media is not being honest enough? Thanks for your opinions.
Asked by Lisa - Sun Nov 9 12:39:42 2008 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Let me put it this way. An obese child is more likely to be an obese adult, than a normal one, and an obese adult is more likely to 1|) die prematurely 2) be in poor health for some time prior to death. This makes childhood obesity a serious challenge for society and for the health care system. America is facing a time bomb that dwarfs terrorism, murder and the war in Iraq/Afghanistan. Things are so serious that for the first time in decades the current generation of children actually have a lower life expectancy than their parents. Last time that this happened was WWII.

A. There are lots of good ideas out there. Plenty of people chime in on the issue with regularity. One thing I've noticed during my lifetime, and I'm 45, is that when I was a kid, most mothers didn't work. Therefore, at the end of the day, they were thinking about, and preparing, a real dinner. Now, it seems, no family can do without two paychecks, it's still mom's "job" to figure out dinner no matter how exhausted she may be, and there's a fast food joint on almost every corner. I'm not placing blame for the obesity on mothers going to work...far from it. I'm thinking, though, that if there were healthier solutions for overworked parents, they would choose them. Brilliant idea! Someone needs to start a fast-food joint that tastes… [cont.]

A. Consider a dietary approach. How misleading is it to say that something is 1/3 less fat or fat free! but contains a huge amount of sugar and or high fructose corn syrup. *hint* Sugar not instantly utilized, gets stored for later use as, you guessed it, fat. Here's the one that REALLY burns my cookies... My daughter had a "scheduling conflict" in high school this year. She has to take P.E. -- online! Let's here it for the Nintendo generation having grown up to become school administrators and teachers! Having spent most of my adult life (literally) running with the Marine Corps, this sounds like an Air Force plot!

Do you believe video/computer games are big factor in the uprising of childhood obesity rates?
Q. I'm just curious what you think on this question. In my personal opinion, yes, I believe that video/computer games play a very important role in childhood obesity. Children no longer go outside and play, but sit in the house and play video games all day. These games are extremely addictive and they are responsible for an increased sedentary lifestyle among children. Thoughts and opinions?

What are three claims or main points for Childhood Obesity?
Q. I need help finding three claims or main points for Childhood Obesity within a persuasive research paper. The argument I have chosen is Parents VS Society... can anyone help me here?!?!
Asked by Steph - Sun Nov 30 14:15:03 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Society often drives Obese children into a state of depression with teasing, bullying, and social outcasting. Which often is the resulting factor of child obesity. Isolation, lack of exercises, and living in poor and dangerous neighborhoods that forces a child to spend little time outside of their house hold, and lack of attention at home are just some of the problems parents encounter with children that is a cause for obesity. Overeating is an issue, but not as common as most people probably assume.

Q. With the FDA contributing to the obesity rate by legalizing Aspertame that actually increases weight., and all of the food additives that also make the eaters more obese and thefact that children do not exercise. What role does ethical relativism play in childhood obesity?
Q. I have to write an essay on ethical relativism. This idea is new to me and I am not sure how to apply it, can someone explain this to me in terms that I can understand?
Asked by brainhurtz - Thu Feb 25 19:29:45 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Ethical relativism is the philosophical theory that states that morality depends on the norms of a specific culture, and that there is not a universal moral code. For instance, in some cultures, marrying several wives (polygamy) is considered unethical and wrong, while it is completely acceptable and even considered proper in other cultures. In terms of childhood obesity, there are cultures that allow childhood obesity and other cultures that do not. Both cultures think they are right, and ethical relativism would suggest that they are both right, since there is no universal moral code to decide who is right and who is wrong.

A. Childhood obesity is a huge problem in the UK. The amount of time spent on games lessons has reduced, and school dinners (in Bucks) were phased out meaning that parents gave their kids packed lunches which included crisps and cakes. Working parents often don't have the time to cook proper meals (and astonishingly some don't have the knowledge). Fresh food, specially meat products are prohibitively expensive whilst junk food is cheap and accessible.
