Abdominal obesity, colloquially known as belly fat or clinically as central obesity, is the accumulation of abdominal fat resulting in an increase in waist size. There is a strong correlation between central obesity and cardiovascular disease.

Visceral fat, also known as organ fat or intra-abdominal fat, is located inside the peritoneal cavity, packed in between internal organs and torso, as opposed to subcutaneous fat which is found underneath the skin, and intramuscular fat which is found interspersed in skeletal muscle. Visceral fat is composed of several adipose depots including mesenteric, epididymal white adipose tissue (EWAT) and perirenal fat. An excess of visceral fat is known as central obesity, the "pot belly" or "beer belly" effect, in which the abdomen protrudes excessively. This body type is also known as "apple shaped", as opposed to "pear shaped", in which fat is deposited on the hips and buttocks.

A. Hi there, Here's a general overview of the 7 most popular and/or effective procedures: 1 - Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery is a combination restrictive/malabsorbtive procedure that has a relatively low complication rate when considering its high levels of excess weight lost and significant improvement in co-morbidities. Its popularity also means that there are more surgeons out there with enough procedures under their belt to improve your chances for a good outcome. 2 - Adjustable gastric banding (i.e. Lap band surgery) has a lower risk of serious complications, and for those who are not 100% sure that they re ready to permanently change their body, it is completely reversible and can be easily converted into a more extreme procedure… [cont.]

To achieve a flat stomach can I do ab exercises alone or must I include cardio as well?
Q. I am 31 years of age, 5'2" tall, & I weigh 130 pounds. My BMI is 23.8, which is considered normal but I have to lose 10 pounds. I do not appear fat but I am unhappy with my huge stomach. I can suck it in to hide it when I'm in public but doing that all day is not comfortable! My body is not in bad shape but I know it could look much better if my stomach wasn't fat. I do crunches but may not be doing enough of them. how many reps do i perform? 15? 25? 50? 100? do i have to include cardio to see results? When I was in my 20's I was only 100 lbs. & had a tiny waist. I am really scared because large bellies run in the family -- my mom, my aunt & uncle, and my grandmother are all plagued with abdominal obesity. It raises the risk… [cont.]

A. You cannot just do situps to help get rid of love handles or make your stomach flat, and you cannot get thinner thighs by just doing workouts for your thighs. If you were to look at a muscle anatomy picture, you will find that what we call love handles are simply our gluteus medius which goes up and connects to the external obliques and goes down to and forms the gluteus maximus which is connected to your lats. Doing the following will help with the entire area to tighten and tone up your muscles and help burn the fat around them. Hope all of this helps do lunges, stepup kickbacks, walking downhill, running, leg raises without weight or very light weight, yoga, push ups, lat pull downs, pull ups rowing, and deadlifts. All of this combined… [cont.]

Do you think my cat has Diabetes Mellitus?
Q. Obesity Genetic predisposition (diabetes is more prevalent in males) Poor nutrition Hormonal abnormalities Stress If you cat appears weak or thirsty, frequently urinates, has rapid weight loss, is depressed, or has abdominal pain, he could be diabetic. (that came from this link, in case you want to read more --->) My cats are over-weight, lazy, hungry a lot, and sometimes thirsty [they don't need all the symptoms to have it] We switched them to wet food, because dry food causes diabetes, but do you think either of my cats could have it? It said fixed males are more likely to get it... (Information from --->) They came from a shelter, and its been pretty hard trying to get them to lose weight. It also said something… [cont.]

A. Mostly you will see increased thirst and urination, so the litterbox will be very full all the time. It is easy to diagnose with a simple blood test or urine test, so going to the vet to be sure is not a bad idea. But the likelihood of BOTH of them being diabetic is pretty low. I bet they are just fat, lazy housecats, like mine! Wet food is a good idea, you can supplement with dry, but either way watch calories because it would be healthy for them to lose weight for many reasons if they are too heavy.
